Bremond ISD to launch Yondr mobile phone program

BREMOND, Texas (KRHD) — Bremond ISD is in the development phase of implementing the Yondr cell phone program.

  • “Yondr” is a bag that students put their phones in and is closed with a magnet that prevents them from using their devices during class.
  • Bremond ISD hopes to have this program in place by next semester.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

“When I started in this business, there were no cell phones,” said Kenneth Groholski, principal of Bremond ISD High School.

“I mean, back then there were maybe two people in town who had a cell phone in their car, so there weren’t those problems like there are today.”

Bremond ISD is preparing to launch a cell phone program called Yondr.

“When the kids come in in the morning, they put their phones in the bag and it’s locked with a magnet that they can’t open,” said agriculture science teacher Kimberly Olson.

This system is designed to limit the intrusion of personal technologies.

“Statistically, it has been proven that cell phones can somewhat hinder attention in classes and the like,” said Groholski.

15ABC have spoken to several teachers in the school district about their thoughts on this upcoming change.

They hope that “Yondr” will help capture students’ attention —

“It’s very difficult to get and keep their attention when everything is there,” Olson said.

Limit online drama and harassment —

“The main problem that I’ve seen and I think is the drama that leads to an argument or mean comments about someone and just bullying, which I really don’t like,” said Kimberly Pruitt, dual credit teacher.

– and give priority to learning at school.

“I hope these bags will help increase children’s learning and participation in school and make school more about learning and not about mobile phones,” says Charlotte Rebill, vocational education and technology teacher.

The headmaster said 15ABC The school district is still in the development phase but is excited to get started.

“I don’t really know what it’s going to look like for us yet, but I’m definitely looking forward to learning more,” Groholski said.

“We’re just looking forward to getting something that’s workable for Bremond,” he said.
