Brazil’s player ratings against Paraguay: Time to panic? Listless Seleçao loses again in World Cup qualifiers, form slump continues

Vinicius Jr. was absent from the national team when the home team won for the first time in nine games

Things aren’t going much better for Brazil. After a poor Copa America and a disappointing start to World Cup qualifying, Dorival Jr.’s team needed to get back on form. But they failed to do so again, with Vinicius Jr. and the Selecao attack missing in a 1-0 loss to Paraguay.

The Seleção struggled at the start. Despite having the majority of possession, Dorival’s side could do little to make the most of it. Guilherme Arana came closest to scoring, but his effort was cleared off the line. Paraguay, meanwhile, took their only real chance when Diego Gomez fired a shot into the net.

Brazil looked better after half-time, with Vinicius having some encouraging moments on the left while the rest of Dorival’s side surged forward. The Real Madrid winger came close twice but wasted a good opportunity from a corner before forcing Roberto Fernandez into an acrobatic save.

However, no goal was scored. Paraguay, on the other hand, held out and only allowed Brazil three shots on goal that evening. The new coach’s problems are already increasing…
