Braelon Allen tweets a cryptic message about last year at Wisconsin after the USC loss

Braelon Allen quickly turned heads in his rookie year with the New York Jets. The insanely tall and powerful back possesses a rare blend of size, speed and strength that made him one of the better running backs in Wisconsin football history during his time there. And after the Badgers’ 38-21 loss to the USC Trojans on Saturday, Allen decided he had some information that he might be able to share with us at some point in the future.

“I’ll keep my mouth shut for now, but one day you’ll all see me on a podcast explaining exactly what went down during my final season there,” Allen tweeted. Well, that should certainly be an interesting listen. There’s very little room for imagination when it comes to podcasts these days.

It will be interesting to see what Allen has to say. In 2023, he had 181 carries for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns. And Wisconsin finished with an overall record of 7-6, including a 35-31 loss in the bowl game to LSU.

Allen had 11 carries for 55 yards on Thursday Night Football against the New England Patriots. He continued to impress in his rookie season. Which left a poster on social media with the comment “How the hell did Braelon Allen fall to the fourth round?” On Friday morning, Allen didn’t waste much time in his response. “Everyone wanted to see me run in my underwear to decide if I was a good soccer player,” Allen explained. The post had 4.2 million views.

He was clearly targeting NFL scouts and decision-makers who were disappointed that he chose not to run the 40-yard dash time in the evaluation process. The former Wisconsin star was also recovering from an ankle injury at the time, which may have impacted his decision not to run the 40-yard dash.

He decided not to officiate at either the NFL Scouting Combine or Wisconsin’s Pro Day. And perhaps that had an impact on his draft stock. It’s something he hasn’t forgotten. And his point is valid, as he put together some pretty impressive film on tape during his career with the Badgers.

Braelon Allen was dominant at Wisconsin

During his time with the Badgers, Allen cemented his place as one of the better defenders in school history. He made 24 starts in 35 games for Wisconsin. He finished his career ranked ninth on the school’s all-time rushing yards list (3,494 yards). Allen also ranked fourth in program history with 5.85 career yards per carry. He also ranked sixth in Badger history with 20 100-yard rushing performances in his career.

He had three seasons with more than 150 carries, more than 10 touchdowns and an average of 5.25 yards per carry, joining former Wisconsin legend Jonathan Taylor as the only two Big Ten running backs to achieve this feat in three seasons succeeded. In 2022 and 2023, Allen earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.
