Brady’s team beat Wrexham in an English game that resembles a Hollywood derby

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Tom Brady triumphed over Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on Monday as his team Birmingham City defeated Wrexham 3-1 in a game dubbed the Hollywood derby.

Normally, such a game in the English third division would not attract much attention, but the profiles of the owners of both clubs have changed that in recent years.

Reynolds and McElhenney bought Wrexham in 2021, while Brady bought a small stake in Birmingham in 2023 through owner Knighthead Capital Management.

According to the BBC, it was the biggest game in English League One history and it certainly brought new attention and glamour, as well as a smile to Brady’s face.

It took a while for that famous grin to appear.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner was watching from the stands with his friend David Beckham and must have been squirming when Jack Marriott put Wrexham ahead after just three minutes.

However, Birmingham came back with a storm thanks to record signing Jay Stansfield, who was in top form.

Stansfield equalised midway through the first half and headed Birmingham into the lead seven minutes into the second half.

Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata scored his third goal after almost an hour and Birmingham dominated the game in front of their own fans.

Four minutes before the end, Birmingham’s Krystian Bielik received a red card, but it was too late for the Welsh team to react.

The result left Birmingham level with first-placed Wrexham, but the latter remained top on goal difference. Birmingham have played a game less.
