Boynton Beach ‘Swiftie’ says tickets were stolen days after purchase

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Imagine securing tickets to one of the biggest artists in the world – Taylor Swift.

“I’m a big concert goer. I go to random concerts probably 10 times a year,” said Shaina Spring.

When Taylor Swift announced the dates for the Era’s Tour, Spring made sure she secured some spots.

“I had already bought tickets when they went on sale,” she said.

Last week she noticed an unusual email.

“On Monday evening I checked my email and noticed that several of my tickets had been debited from my account,” she said.

They disappeared a week after purchasing some of the most sought-after tickets.

She said her account was hacked, with costly consequences.

“Probably close to $1,000. Taylor Swift was the big one,” Spring said. “I paid for it firsthand, so about $385.”

We reached out to Ticketmaster for comment but did not hear back in time for this story.

Spring said Ticketmaster informed her that an investigation was underway.

WPTV’s Kendall Hyde spoke with IT specialist Alan Crowetz, CEO of Infostream.

“It’s almost always what they call phishing. This involves someone being tricked into getting a username and password,” said Crowetz, who believes a hacker could impersonate Spring to get their data. “So they often don’t even know they’ve given away their username or password.”

IT specialist Alan Crowetz, CEO of Infostream, says the incident may have happened through phishing.

He said this happens often, adding that it can be difficult to catch hackers.

“Often these are foreign actors. They are not often in cooperating countries. So if they’re in North Korea, India or whoever, we’re not going to get much cooperation in finding them.”

“What are your backup plans in case you don’t get your tickets to the concert in time?” Hyde asked Spring.

“I’m planning on just hanging out at the venue anyway and hoping someone has a spare ticket,” Spring said.

UPDATE: Shaina Spring told WPTV that Ticketmaster was able to replace her tickets an hour after the story aired.
