Jack Black describes Borderlands character as “R-Rated R2-D2”

Jack Black, who voices Claptrap in Borderlands, talks about what it was like to play the fan-favorite robot in the live-action film.

“It’s discouraging when someone develops the game who is obsessed with what you can and can’t do, but it’s actually quite liberating when you have a partner like Randy Pitchford,” said Roth, referring to the CEO of Gearbox Entertainment Company. “Randy was the first person I spoke to. I said, ‘This is your world, this is your baby, but I want to make an adaptation. I want to make a great film. A big, entertaining film, (like) the films I love, whether it is Fifth Element, Street Fighter, Escape from New Yorksomething totally crazy and funny.’ And he said: ‘You have the freedom to adapt.'”

And he said, “You have the freedom to adapt.”

Roth added: “I said, of course I don’t want to change it just for the sake of changing it, but if I need to make changesbecause I think it will make the movie better or add something to the characters. We are not recreating the video game. We are adapting and telling the story. And he said: “Absolutely.'”
