Borderlands and 3 other films are coming to theaters this weekend

This week, News 9’s Movie Man Dino Lalli introduces four new films, including one starring Blake Lively.

Borderlands is based on a popular video game that mixes westerns and science fiction. Cate Blanchett plays Lilith, an outlaw who returns to her home planet after being hired by a weapons manufacturer named Altas. He wants her to find his missing daughter. To help her in her mission, Lilith gathers a crew of five other outcasts to explore the dangerous planets. They battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find the missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power. This film is rated 13+.

Carpenter’s Prayer is a film based on an inspiring true story. Set in Michigan in the 1970s, it follows a minister and his family as they attempt to build a new church. They encounter obstacles that nearly derail their plans. Unexpectedly, a struggling carpenter becomes their source of hope. This story shows how faith in God can lead to salvation even in difficult situations. This film is rated PG.

Cuckoo is a disturbing psychological horror film starring Hunter Schafer. Schafer plays Gretchen, who travels to a resort in the German Alps. There she becomes embroiled in a conspiracy involving bizarre experiments that reflect generations of the resort owner. This film is rated R.

Blake Lively stars in It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. Lively plays Lily, a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to start a new life in Boston. There, she opens a flower shop and meets a charming neurosurgeon named Ryle, played by Justin Baldoni. The two have an intense relationship, but as they fall in love, Lily begins to discover sides of him that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love Atlas, played by Brandon Klenar, suddenly re-enters her life, her relationship with Ryle is turned upside down. She realizes she must rely on her strengths to make an impossible decision for her future. This film is PG-13.
