HIGHLANDTOWN – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) contacted the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday evening requesting the use of K9 Solace, the fire department’s search and rescue dog and recently certified cadaver detection dog, to assist in a search and rescue operation for a missing person.

According to the Kolkata Volunteer Fire Department, the person’s car was found after it had presumably been parked for about eight days.

Participating in the operation were: the Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department, which provided personnel and their support vehicles; the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Department, which provided drone services; the Ohio Special Response Team, which provided a command center, dogs, and personnel; the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department, which provided the search and rescue/cadaver dog that found the missing person’s body; and the ODNR, which led the search and recovery, which took place on state hunting land near Highlandtown Lake.

Neither the identity of the body nor the cause of death have been disclosed so far.
