Bobs, bangs and updos in the style of the 90s: The premiere of Beetlejuice was worth its weight in gold

The Venice Film Festival began this week with a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Bangs—and hairstyles galore. Cate Blanchett, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Taylor Russell and Monica Bellucci arrived at the premiere in suitably stunning ensembles, but it was their hair that really defined their looks.

There were bangs, bobs, ’90s-style updos, medium length hair, and pixie crops—all styles that reflect our collective obsession with every hair trend. They also serve as great inspiration for fall, a time when many of us are refreshing our looks before the end of the year.

There was Ortega with her jet-black curtain bangs, pulled back into a low, messy bun – a face-framing fringe like this looks just as good up as it does down, so it’s a great style to try if you want to add some detail to your face. Blanchett showed off a tousled midi bob – which was very flattering to her bare décolletage – while Bellucci’s mid-length cut was suitably undone and paired perfectly with oversized sunglasses.

Ryder, meanwhile, combined a thin fringe with a theatrical 90s-style fan bun – perfect for the weird and wonderful world of Beetlejuice— and Russell’s new pixie cut featured elfin micro bangs and a slight sweep at the nape, a boyish style that highlighted her sweet features.

When the film festival kickoff looks as good as this one, it would be rude not to opt for a new hairstyle in September—so pick your fighter.
