The words “BMW 2 Series Active Tourer” or, alternatively, “chassis code U06” may not sound very familiar to US buyers. Nor should they, because the egg-shaped model is only available outside US borders. It debuted in 2014 and the second generation hit the market in 2021, but insiders say the model range is already set to shrink by 2027.

Information coming from a regular forum insider suggests that the 2 Active Tourer model range will shrink slightly by 2027. Only two petrol-powered models, the 218i and 220i, and the existing hybrid models – currently the 225xe and 230xe – will remain as the model prepares for its end of production in October 2029. The same thread states that platform companions (FAAR) such as the U11 X1 and F70 1 Series should continue to be produced until 2033.

In the meantime, we expect to see Little changes in the Active Tourer. The same source mentions that the new interface – presumably Panoramic Vision – will also be used in the U06/U10/U11. They claim the change will take place in 2027, which coincides with BMW downsizing its model range. That makes sense to us.

While the 2 Series Active Tourer is not Exactly a favorite of enthusiasts, it surely sells well. The Over 420,000 units of the first generation were soldand we can imagine that buyers will choose the MPV because of its spacious cabin and premium feel, not its performance metrics. We drove the majority of the cast and had good things to say about the model’s comfortable seats, powerful driver assistance systems and practical price.

We are sure that BMW hopes to continue the second generation To sold more than the first and with a slightly longer production cycle – eight years for the U06 compared to seven years for the first generation model – that seems realistic. The segment is also shrinking considerably as competitors such as the Ford C-Max and Renault Scenic die out and switch to an SUV body style.
