The St. Louis Blues have made offers to two Edmonton Oilers players, defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said Tuesday.
Both players are restricted free agents.
The Oilers have until August 20 to match the offers. If they don’t, they will receive draft picks from the Blues as compensation.
Broberg’s offer is for two years and $9.16 million. If the Oilers don’t match the offer, they would have to be awarded a second-round pick. Holloway, who is being offered two years and $4.58 million, would get a third-round pick.
To that end, the Blues made a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins to begin acquiring the necessary picks.
The Blues sent their 2026 second-round pick and the Ottawa Senators’ 2025 third-round pick to the Penguins in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fifth-round pick from Pittsburgh.
This 2025 second-round pick originally belonged to the Blues, who traded him to the Penguins on June 29 in exchange for forward Kevin Hayes.
The Oilers selected Broberg with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 draft. The 23-year-old has appeared in 81 regular-season games, scoring two goals and 11 assists, and has also appeared in 20 playoff games.
Holloway was selected No. 14 overall in the 2020 draft and has appeared in 89 regular-season games, scoring nine goals and nine assists. In 25 games of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, the 22-year-old Holloway has seven points (five goals, two assists).
