Bloom will lead player development and take over all of Mozeliak’s baseball operations after 2025 as the Cards realign

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The Cardinals’ season is over, but the movement is just beginning.

At a press conference at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at Busch Stadium, the franchise announced several operational changes, including the promotion of Chaim Bloom. Bloom, the former baseball operations manager for the Rays and Red Sox who worked part-time as a consultant in the Cardinals’ front office this year, will move to a full-time position and will have more influence over the way the Cardinals develop players The team finished consecutive seasons outside the postseason. Bloom will take over as president of baseball operations when Mozeliak steps down after the 2025 season.

Additionally, the Cardinals announced they will invest more in player development, including hiring additional personnel, and will break ground on an expansion of their Spring Training complex in Jupiter in April 2025. Because of these investments, Mozeliak said he would expect the payroll to decline in 2025.

Reports suggest the Cardinals could cut payroll in 2025 while focusing on building an organization that has faltered in recent years – a time when there is a clear deficit in the club’s ability to develop young talent and to produce has crystallized in less productive big league clubs.

Mozeliak has been the Cardinals’ chief baseball operations executive since being promoted to the position following the 2007 season. Mozeliak’s tenure brought consistent success, multiple trips to the World Series and a championship to St. Louis.

More recently, however, the Cardinals organization’s high standards have deteriorated, with the Cardinals missing the postseason more times than they qualified for it over the last nine seasons.
