Billy Crudup wins second Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

The Emmys continue tonight with Billy Crudup was announced as the recipient of the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, thanks to his work alongside greats such as Jennifer Aniston And Reese Witherspoon on Apple TV+ The morning showThis is the second time the actor has received this special award for the same performance, having previously won the trophy in 2020 and received a nomination in 2022. Crudup plays Cory Ellison, the charismatic CEO of the titular show’s network, the United Broadcast Association (UBA), in the production.




The morning show was one of the big contenders tonight, with a host of Crudup’s co-stars also nominated in various categories and the show’s nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Alongside Crudup, his co-stars were in the running for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, Mark Duplass And Jon Hamm.

In the series he appears as a nervous executive producer of The morning showChip Black, this is the second time Duplass has been nominated for his work as Outstanding Supporting Actor. Like Crudup, the actor was already nominated for the award in 2020 after the series’ first season. Previously, Duplass and his brother, Jay Duplassreceived the Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for their work as executive producers of Netflix’s gripping documentary series. Wild Wild Land.


Hamm joined the cast of The morning show for the most recent third season as the main antagonist, Paul Marks. Paul, a tech billionaire and a shady character, is out to buy UBA. This is Hamm’s second Emmy nomination this year, as he is also nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Anthology or Movie for his work in FargoThe actor was nominated a whopping 16 more times and received the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2015 for his portrayal of Don Draper in mad Men.


Who else was in the race?


The competition was tough this year, with faces from Shogun, The CrownAnd Slow horses are also fighting for the award. Shogun, Tadanobu Asano was nominated for his portrayal of Kashigi Yabushige, while his co-star, Takehiro Hira, was honored for his work as Ishido Kazunari. The morning show, Shogun was also named several times in various categories and was an overall favorite. Set in 1600s Japan, the series follows the mad race for power in the Council of Regents after the death of their leader. Asano’s Kashigi Yabushige is the dangerously cunning Lord of Izu who would easily cross the boundaries of morality if it meant he would emerge victorious. On the other side is Hira’s Ishido Kazunari, who had a rags-to-riches story, a farmer turned military leader whose straightforward manner earned him a large following.


The ballot also read: Slow horses Star, Jack Lowden. The Apple TV+ series revolves around a ragtag group of MI5 agents who put aside their differences to protect England from those who seek to destroy it. Lowden appears in the title as River Cartwright, an aspiring spy who, when we first meet him, has been placed on the B-team because of his past mistakes. This was Lowden’s first Emmy nomination. Eventually, the legendary Jonathan Pryce was also on the ballot for his work in the popular Netflix series. The CrownThe series, which follows the life and times of the royal family from 1947 to 2005, recently concluded its sixth and final season. Pryce appeared in the last two installments as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. A Primetime Emmy nomination is nothing new for Pryce, as this was his fourth nomination.
