billionaire Jared Isaacman feels overjoyed after successfully completing the first civilian spacewalk – and he spent a lot of money to go down in history.
The billionaire CEO of payment processing company Shift4 took part in SpaceX’s riskiest mission to date, in which he and another astronaut exited the capsule and floated through space in newly developed spacesuits.
The Polaris Dawn mission was funded by Isaacman. He and retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel Scott PoteetSpaceX employees Sarah Gillis And Anna Menon orbited 435 miles above the Earth.
Isaacman made history on Thursday morning with his own Neil Armstrong Moment when he left the capsule tied to the ship and became the first civilian to experience unlimited space.
During the momentous walk, he said: “We all still have a lot of work to do at home, but from here the Earth really does look like a perfect world.”
After Isaacman completed his spacewalk, Gillis briefly left the capsule.
This was probably a dream come true for Isaacman… who spent hundreds of millions of dollars to make the mission a reality. He had previously spent a chunk of change in 2021 to SpaceX’s Inspiration4 flight.
Isaacman is not the first billionaire with a space obsession. Richard Branson set out from the atmosphere on Virgin Galactic Unity 22 in July 2021.
Jeff Bezos followed days later, shoot into space in the Blue Origin NS-16.
It’s not clear what it is about space that excites all these billionaires… but it’s like a dog licking its balls… they do it because they can.
