“I’ve always been a huge album lover,” she told Kimmel, explaining why she prefers to release complete projects. “I really love when something feels like a single piece and is coherent and thoughtful.”

Eilish, who made history in 2020 as the youngest person to win in the top four categories at the Grammys, explained how she carefully arranges the flow of each album. “I write down all the names, rip them up, move them around… it’s all about dynamics and flow.”

The “Lunch” singer also spoke about her long-standing relationship with her fans, comparing it to seeing familiar faces at her concerts over the years as “like seeing old friends again.”

“The cool thing was that all these fans, my whole little family, we grew up at the same time,” she told Kimmel. “So many kids, especially in LA because I’m from here and I travel a lot and stuff. When I first started, there were certain kids that I saw in everything I did, and we were all the same age.”

Eilish continued, “So they came to things and I would see them several times a year and then I wouldn’t see them for a couple of years and then I would see them again. Over the years I’ve seen the same faces several times and it feels like I’m seeing my old friends again.”

Elsewhere in the interview, she treated the audience to an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her and her brother Finneas working on the song “Birds of a Feather” in the back of an SUV in Brazil.

“It’s just normal for me and Finneas,” she said, referring to her siblings’ collaboration that has produced several hit records, including the James Bond theme “No Time to Die.” “We’ve recorded everywhere – from a bunk on a tour bus to little hotel rooms. It’s casual, but we love it.”

With her Hit me hard and soft The world tour kicks off in Quebec on September 29. Eilish talked about how she balances life on tour. “I never want to regret it,” she explained. “I love touring, but you start to hate yourself if you’re away for too long. That’s why I make sure to take breaks in between.”

Eilish’s latest album Hit me hard and soft debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in June, marking the highest weekly album sales of her career. All 10 tracks from the album entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including “Lunch” at No. 5, her highest debut to date. The album also secured 90,000 vinyl units sold, giving Eilish her fifth consecutive No. 1 on the vinyl album chart.
