Beyoncé says raising her three children is not “easy”

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter said raising her three children was “grounding and fulfilling,” but not without challenges.

In a rare interview with GQ, the artist and entrepreneur spoke candidly about balancing family and career. And despite the release of “Cowboy Carter” earlier this year, the recent “Renaissance” tour and new business ventures like her hair care brand Cécred and new whiskey SirDavis, family always comes first.

Knowles-Carter told the magazine that she organizes her work around her family’s schedule.

“Raising three children is not easy,” she told the magazine. “The older they get, the more independent they become with their own needs, hobbies and social lives.”

“My twins are a gift from God,” she said of her seven-year-old twins Rumi and Sir. “As a parent, you’re constantly learning about yourself. It takes a lot of prayer and patience. I love it.”

Knowles-Carter has three children with her husband Jay-Z: their twins and her 12-year-old daughter, Blue ivy.

Despite her busy schedule, the singer said her children accompany her “everywhere I go” – from her office to the studio to dance practice.

Beyoncé initially did not want Blue Ivy to perform on tour

On the “Renaissance” tour, Blue Ivy accompanied her mother on stage and performed choreographies to the songs “My Power” and “Black Parade”.

This is no surprise, as Blue Ivy has been a great companion for her parents throughout their lives – from the 2017 Grammys to the premiere of the remake of The Lion King in 2019.

Following her stage debut at a show in Paris in May 2023, Knowles-Carter posted a tribute to her daughter on Instagram.

“My beautiful first child,” the artist wrote. “I am so proud and grateful to be your mommy. You bring us so much joy, my sweet angel.”

Knowles-Carter told GQ that she initially didn’t want Blue Ivy to perform with her, even though she knew her daughter was an “artist.”

“She’s a natural, but I didn’t want Blue on stage,” she said. “Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow every night before our eyes.”

Although she allowed her young daughter on stage, Knowles-Carter said her top priority was to give her children a normal life.

“One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my children have as much normalcy and privacy as possible and that my personal life doesn’t become a brand,” she told GQ in the wide-ranging interview. “I’ve worked extremely hard to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money in the world is worth my peace.”
