St. Lucie County, Fla. (CBS12) — The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) announced that another scam surfaced in the community on Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office said residents should beware of suspicious calls from someone claiming to be a SLCSO deputy. The scammer tells the other person on the phone that there is a warrant out for their arrest. The scammer then gives the victim the option to pay them through bitcoin purchases or gift cards.
Common payment methods cited by scammers include:
- Bitcoin
- PayPal
- cell
- Gift Cards
SLCSO emphasizes that these calls are fake and that residents should hang up immediately to avoid becoming victims.
