Ben Affleck is spending a lot of time working this summer while rumors about his marriage to Jennifer Lopez continue to circulate.

A source told PEOPLE that Affleck, 51, has not yet moved into the Los Angeles home he recently purchased and is still living in the Brentwood, California, rental property where he was staying in May, when sources first said he and Lopez, 55, were living apart.

“Ben is doing well. He thrives when he’s busy and he’s been working nonstop,” the source says. “The kids are still off school. He’s spending a lot of time with them too.”

Affleck and Lopez’s marriage has been the subject of considerable public criticism since May, although the couple showed unity at their daughter Violet’s high school graduation ceremony that same month.

The couple, who married in 2022, spent much of the summer apart after Lopez canceled her tour, and then spent much of the last two months vacationing in Europe and the Hamptons, New York.

Lopez recently returned to LA and began looking for a new home after putting the Beverly Hills mansion they bought together up for sale in May 2023.

“It hasn’t been the easiest summer for him either,” the source adds. “He’s just trying to stay focused and make each day the best he can.”

Affleck has children Violet (18), Seraphina (15) and Samuel (12) with his ex Jennifer Garner, while Lopez has 16-year-old twins Maximilian “Max” David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz with her ex-husband Marc Anthony.

The actor and Oscar-winning filmmaker has been busy filming a sequel to his 2016 action thriller over the past few months. The accountant. He is also working on a number of other projects as a writer, director and producer, including two films he and Matt Damon produced in which Lopez acts: Unstoppable And Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Amazon MGM Studios releases first images at Unstoppable on Thursday, August 8. The biopic is about wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and won an NCAA national championship in 2011. Lopez plays the wrestler’s mother, Judy, in the film.

When Lopez recently returned to the West Coast, a source told PEOPLE that she and Affleck are “moving on separately,” adding on August 6 that “Jennifer is trying to find a new home to start over.”
