Bears’ Roschon Johnson reacts after Texans’ Azeez Al-Shaair hits him during the game

NFL referees at the Houston Texans’ game against the Chicago Bears missed a punch that was thrown during a scrum toward the end of the game on Sunday night.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ran to the sideline and was hit just before he stepped off the field. Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair got up after the tackle and hit Bears running back Roschon Johnson, who wasn’t even involved in the play.

In that heated moment, the referees separated the players, but they missed the hit. The Texans should have received a 15-yard penalty and Al-Shaair should have been ejected. But no penalties were assessed for the play.

Johnson responded to the incident in a post on X.

“It took my whole soul not to beat the boy up,” the Bears player wrote.

The Texans won the game 19-13 thanks to their incredible defense that stalled the Bears offense. Caleb Williams threw two interceptions – one to Kamari Lassiter and the other to Derek Stingley Jr.

“It’s just about winning week in and week out,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said after the game. “It’s not always going to be pretty, but you just have to find a way to win. That’s what I’m most proud of about our guys. No matter what happened at the end, we found a way to win.”

Texans pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. had 1.5 sacks in the game.
