BCMS FOOTBALL: Bears battle against Ohio and Daviess

On Tuesday, August 20, the BCMS Bears hosted the Ohio County Middle School Eagles. BCMS coach Kory Johnson urged players and parents to fill the stadium, and that’s exactly what happened. The Bears’ Den was packed with spectators as both teams knocked off the Eagles.

Bo Abbott led the seventh grade team to a 38-0 victory. Eighth grade quarterback Brody Dockery led his team to a 30-0 victory. Both teams have exceptional offensive and defensive lines this year.

Following Tuesday’s win, the team traveled to Daviess County (Class 6A) on Thursday, August 11. Both games were intense and hard fought. The 7th grade team went into halftime tied 0-0 and came back strong in the 3rd quarter. The Bears led 18-12 with 6 seconds left until the Panthers scored and the game went into overtime. The Bears took the win in double overtime, 24-18.

As if the double overtime wasn’t enough for Bear fans, the 8th grade team went into the third overtime and lost by a score of 8-6. After the game, Coach Johnson approached his teams and praised them for the fighting spirit and determination they played with.

“It was a tough test heading into district play and we got exactly what we needed to prepare for a GRVC championship,” Johnson said.
