Barry Keoghan stars alongside Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders movie on Netflix

EXCLUSIVE: Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan joins the cast of the highly anticipated Netflix film Peaky Blinders special feature. The Banshees of Inisherin And Saltburn The actor is the latest big name to star in the Tom Harper-directed film alongside star Cillian Murphy. Last month, Deadline exclusively revealed that Rebecca Ferguson is also joining the cast.

Similar to Ferguson, details of Keoghan’s role are kept secret.

As Deadline previously reported, Netflix gave the green light for the Peaky Feature in June with Oppenheimer Oscar winner Murphy returns to the legendary role of Tommy Shelby, the leader of the Birmingham gangster family of the same name.

The epic sequel to the multi-award-winning saga is written by series creator Steven Knight. He will produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. The film is being made in association with BBC Film.

Although plot details are being kept under wraps, Knight has already revealed to Deadline that the film will be set during World War II. Production is expected to begin later this year.

Keoghan, who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and won a BAFTA in that category for Martin McDonagh’s 2022 hit The Banshees of Inisherinplayed the lead role in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn for which he received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations (and spent time with Murphy in the awards hunt). He already has a busy 2024 under his belt, starting with the Apple TV+ limited series Master of the skies. In the feature film sector, he played the leading role in Andrea Arnold’s Bird, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

He is the next in Bring them down which will premiere at TIFF on September 9. He also has the untitled Trey Edward Shults film in the pipeline, alongside The Weekend and Jenna Ortega, and is currently in talks to team up with Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in the Amazon MGM Studios adaptation of Don Winslow’s novella Crime 101.
