Barcelona’s coach is “proud” of a key aspect of his team’s performance against Getafe

With the win over Getafe last night, FC Barcelona continued their winning streak in La Liga. Unlike some of the team’s recent games, it wasn’t a goalfest, but the Catalans still managed to get the job done with a 1-0 win over the Madrid-based side.

It’s easy to understand why the Blaugranes only had a one-goal lead in this game, as Getafe usually plays with a low block. Lewandowski managed to score the team’s only goal in the first half and then came close to scoring again, but Getafe goalkeeper David Soria parried his and Yamal’s shots on goal.

But no matter how many goals his team scored, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was still happy with his team’s performance. Speaking to the press after the game, SPORT highlighted that the German head coach revealed an aspect of the game that made him really proud:

“A lot of people at the club said that the games against Getafe were always close. We fought for 95 minutes and that makes me proud. The team played football, but also knew how to fight. In the second half we had to increase the passing speed; it was necessary to open up spaces.”

There is no doubt that this was a difficult game for FC Barcelona, especially given the many absences in the squad. Key players such as Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal and ter Stegen remain out injured, while Frenkie de Jong and Gavi are not yet ready to return to action.

Achieving these 1-0 wins in such difficult circumstances will definitely help the team in the latter stages of the season. Hopefully, Barcelona can continue their winning streak and gain enough of a points lead over their main rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to secure a comfortable win in La Liga.
