Barbra Streisand headlines for Jewish women at Kamala Harris event

Barbra Streisand became involved early on in Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign – and plans to increase her visibility in the coming days as chair of Jewish Women for Kamala.

“WE GOT BARBRA!!!” the group announced on its Facebook page on Monday. “We are so excited to announce that the one and only BARBRA STREISAND will be joining the #JewishWomenforKamala call on Thursday! Hear from the legend herself why she’s fully behind Kamala!”

The legendary star of stage, screen and billboards will headline this week’s “Jewish Women for Kamala” call, following similar events by a pro-Harris advocacy group, including last month’s “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom call, which featured Jeff Bridges, Mark Ruffalo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Groban and many others and raised nearly $4 million.

Thursday’s conference call with Streisand supporting Harris and her running mate Tim Walz begins at 8 p.m. ET.

“Kamala and Tim have our backs, and Jewish women want to show that we have our backs – let’s say it loud and clear!” the group says. “Mishpocha, welcome! All genders and all Jewish allies are welcome.”

Streisand, 82, who has won two Oscars and 10 Grammys, has been a vocal critic of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and, more recently, of the media that covers him.

On Monday, she tweeted about the former president’s small, invite-only press conference last week: “I was shocked watching Trump’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago (the place where he kept the stolen secret documents). So many of his lies went unchallenged.”

She linked to a column by Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post that criticized shortlisted reporters for not asking tougher questions.

Streisand was a generous donor to Democratic candidates and a vocal defender of President Joe Biden before he dropped out as the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate.

“It would be wonderful if more people would be more scrutinizing of a president’s character,” she tweeted on April 17. “You don’t want a vain and vindictive man who is a pathological liar and whose only goal is more money and power to boost his fragile ego. Like Donald Trump.”
