Bangladesh beat Pakistan by six wickets to secure victory in historic cricket series | Cricket News

Bangladesh seal their first Test series win against Pakistan with a six-wicket victory in Rawalpindi to finish the tour 2-0.

Bangladesh cricket team has secured a historic 2-0 Test series win against Pakistan after recording a six-wicket victory in the second and final match of the tour on Tuesday.

The tourists had set themselves 185 points for a win in Rawalpindi and reached their target in the afternoon session of the final day, looking to build on their 10-wicket victory in the opening Test at the same venue, which in itself was Bangladesh’s first Test win against Pakistan.

Zakir Hasan scored 40 off just 39 balls in Bangladesh’s successful fightback at the start of the innings, leaving little hope of a Pakistan comeback. The 26-year-old’s innings included three fours and two sixes in an opening stand of 58 against Shadman Islam.

The decisive moment came, perhaps fittingly, with a cover drive from Shakib Al Hasan to Abrar Ahmed, who shared the fifth wicket with Mushfiqur Rahim on an unbeaten 32, calming nerves after Mominul Haque was dismissed at 153-4.

Bangladesh’s first innings was rescued by Litton Das’s 136, in a partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz of 165 for the seventh wicket, after his side had been reduced to 26-6 in reply to the hosts’ 274. Mehidy’s 78 followed a five-wicket haul with the ball.

Pakistan, whose three batters scored half-centuries in their first innings, were bowled out for 172 in the second innings as the batting woes of the first match came back to haunt them. Hasan Mahmud was the main tormentor with 5-43, while Nahid Rana claimed 4-44.

The two series defeats extend Pakistan’s losing streak in home cricket to six defeats and four draws since their win against South Africa in Rawalpindi in 2021.
