NBC live commentator Mike Tirico discussed the injuries Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews sustained against the Cincinnati Bengals last season, calling Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson’s tackle on Andrews on that play a “hip-drop tackle.”

“(Andrews’) injury was the result of one of those hip-drop tackles that the league really wanted to keep out of the game, and now there’s a penalty,” Tirico said during the broadcast of the season-opening game between the Ravens and Chiefs in Kansas City on Thursday.

When Andrews played in the AFC title game between the Ravens and the Chiefs in January for the first time since his injury in Week 11 against the Bengals, CBS commentator Jim Nantz also referred to the tackle Wilson turned Andrews into the controversial “Hip-Drop” label.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh criticized Wilson’s tackle. ESPN’s Bart Scott called it a “dirty tackling style.” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor defended Wilson, calling the criticism of Wilson’s tackle “completely reckless.”

Andrews said on the Ravens website that he does not blame Wilson for his injury.
