Baltimore suffered some defensive losses in the offseason, but after a disappointing playoff exit – to Kansas City – I expect the Ravens to learn from their mistakes and trust their running game. Plus, the Chiefs might start a little slow given the excitement of the kickoff game and the celebration of their back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
Tyler Dragon: Chiefs 24, Ravens 23
The Chiefs begin their attempt to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. Kansas City lost its opener last year after winning the Super Bowl 57 championship. They won’t suffer the same fate in the 2024 Kickoff Game, even if Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are out for revenge after last year’s AFC Championship Game. The Ravens need a game or two to improve their offense with new addition Derrick Henry. Plus, Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s passing attack should be more explosive this year with the return of JuJu Smith-Schuster and rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy.
Safid Deen: Ravens 26, Chiefs 23
Baltimore may not be able to avenge what was at stake in the AFC title game last season, but it needs a win to thwart Kansas City’s title defense. Derrick Henry should have a consistent workload to take the pressure off Lamar Jackson and the Ravens and give Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense limited chances to hurt them on Thursday night. Justin Tucker wins for the Ravens.
Richard Morin: Ravens 23, Chiefs 21
Although the Chiefs still score a field goal in this game, it could be the Ravens’ superstar kicker who flips the bookies’ script. People will bemoan the defending champions’ slow start, but they’ll get there. Let’s let Baltimore enjoy the moment.
