GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – School is literally just around the corner and scammers know it.
Technology is an important part of a child’s educational experience, but you need to be wary of scammers.
The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau wants you to beware of scammers who target you with enticing ads, attractive but fake websites, and false offers.
Laptops, tablets and other tech accessories can be a significant investment.
Here’s what you need to consider when shopping for back-to-school supplies and want to save money, according to the BBB:
- Buy from companies you know and trust to ensure you get a quality product and good customer service.
- Don’t buy from scammers. Scammers may use the name, logo, and other features of brands you trust.
- Examine the website carefully to verify that the person is who they claim to be.
- Be wary of low prices – low prices and short-term special offers can be a sign that you are dealing with a scam.
- If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Some manufacturers rarely offer special offers.
- If a company that rarely discounts products is offering a big sale, do some more research.
- Low-priced products may be used or refurbished, or you may be on a fake website.
- Some major retailers allow third-party sellers to list items on their websites, and these items can be difficult to distinguish from the rest.
Know what you are buying. Shopping for the best product for your needs can help you avoid scams and regrets.
