Sheridan Senior wins gold at the WY Senior Olympics: A Sheridan resident has won gold in an event that is part of the Olympics, but he didn’t have to travel to France to win.
Mark Engelman, 67, won seven gold medals in swimming at the Wyoming Senior Olympics held last week in Cheyenne.
He says he has been participating in the games for some time, and when he started at the tender age of 50, he realized that competing against other seniors is not as easy as one might think.
Engelman says he swam for a year in high school and didn’t do much in the sport until the senior Olympics.
He explains why he took part in the games.
Engelman says he has lived in Sheridan since 1980.

Training for golf, tennis and 4A soccer begins on Monday: Next Monday is the day some Sheridan County High School athletes have been waiting for.
Training begins for all golf, tennis and 4A soccer classes.
The Bronc football team, three-time defending champions, will take the field at 7 a.m. Monday to begin twice-daily practice.
The players are not allowed to put on the pads until Thursday.
The first game is scheduled for Friday, August 30th, at home against Cheyenne South.
In golf, competitions can begin as early as Wednesday.
Sheridan is scheduled to compete in Powell on Wednesday and Thursday.
In tennis, competitions can begin as early as tomorrow, one week from now.
For volleyball, cross country, girls’ swimming and all other soccer classes, training will not begin until the following Monday, August 19th.
