Attack On Titan just can’t say goodbye: Compilation film planned

Attack on Titan

Have you ever had a friend who just didn’t want to leave? Every time they say, “Well, I think I’d better get going…”, the conversation turns to something else and they don’t come back until ten minutes later? Attack on Titan feels a lot like that proverbial person right now. We never thought we would write about it again, but… Studio MAPPA has found a way.

The studio announced today that episodes 29-35 of the final season will be edited into a single film and re-released in this form as Attack on Titan The Movie: The Final AttackMAPPA has released a teaser trailer and a release date of November 8th.

Will it be different from the final episodes and extended specials that aired last year? A little. Series director Yuichiro Hayashi says the visual aspects will be improved from the television version, but otherwise it’s the same story. “I originally drew the storyboards (for THE LAST CHAPTERS) with the idea of it being seen as one film,” says Hayashi. “To have the opportunity for everyone to see it in the best possible environment, the cinema, is a dream come true for me.”

Maybe we shouldn’t be SO surprised that AOT is dragging things out like this considering they’re nothing new to compilation movies. There’s been one for every season so far. But this is the last one, isn’t it? They’re not going to edit the entire series into a 15-hour movie and release it LIKE this, are they? I didn’t exactly give MAPPA an idea, did I?

There is no announced western release or English dubbing for Attack on Titan The Movie: The Final Attack — YET — but it’s only a matter of time. You don’t have to see the movie to relive the finale, though. Attack on TitanThe final season was just announced this week for Blu-Ray and DVD; the season set and complete set will be available on November 26th.
