Atlanta Falcons star tight end battling thigh injury ahead of game against Steelers

The Atlanta Falcons have a lot to worry about heading into Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but injuries could complicate matters. Falcons star tight end Kyle Pitts will be limited on Wednesday with a hamstring injury.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris announced the injury on Wednesday. The replacement tight end would be Charlie Woerner, who has been a promising backup blocker in the NFL for years, but there is no direct replacement for the skills that Pitts would bring.

Morris says the injury has been bothering Pitt for a few weeks, but they are limiting him to get him fully healthy for the Week 1 game against the Steelers.

Pitts’ stats make him as exceptional an athlete as any in the NFL. At 6-foot-6, the tight end ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds in his third year after returning from Florida. That was enough for the Falcons to add him to their growing roster of offensive weapons that now includes Drake London and Bijan Robinson. With Pitts limited, they’ll see how he responds to the injury, but that’s a sure sign he should be ready to go on Sunday.

Pitts suffered a serious knee injury in his rookie season that forced him to undergo surgery. As a result, he didn’t look quite the same in 2023, but still managed 667 yards on 53 passes caught despite the team’s poor quarterback play. The hamstring injury is another in a list of injuries Pitts suffered early in his career, but the Falcons should at least be optimistic he can play, as he is scheduled to take a practice on Wednesday.
