The New Orleans Saints shuffled their wide receiver group around all offseason and preseason to find the best mix of players for their roster, ultimately resulting in AT Perry being tagged as a healthy backup for Week 2. according to Katherine Terrell of ESPNThis came after Perry practiced without restrictions all week, although he missed the Week 1 game due to a hand injury.
This is somewhat surprising, as Perry played in 10 games last season, starting three, and was impressive with his playing time. However, there were moments in the preseason where other players got opportunities ahead of him, most notably in the game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Could this just be injury management and making sure he’s fully healthy before he plays? Maybe. Could it also be the Saints saying they’re better with guys like Bub Means and Mason Tipton than they are with Perry? Also maybe. Who knows the thought process here, but ultimately the decision was made, at least this week, to part ways with Perry and stick with the receiver room they had in Week 1.
