Arts Festival and Film, Labor Day Weekend

A celebration of the arts on Labor Day weekend features a screening of the classic film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and kicks off the Weston Invitational Arts Festival.

It all takes place on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st on the Weston school campus.

The art festival, hosted by Gordon Fine Arts, will take place on the Hurlbutt Elementary athletic field from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days. It is a juried art fair featuring original works by over 75 invited artists.

On Saturday evening, the latest episode of the popular “Movie Under the Stars” series, presented by the Weston Commission for the Arts, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” will be shown on the Weston Middle School athletic field.

There will be pre-show music from The Bar Car Band at 5:30 and plenty of food, drinks and treats. The film begins shortly after sunset. The Arts Commission advises that Rocky Horror is an R-rated film and therefore not suitable for younger age groups.

The art festival

Works featured in the Invitational Arts Festival include paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, sculptures, mixed media, jewelry, ceramics, fiber, metal and glass pieces, all available for collecting at every price point.

The festival also features live music performances on both days, including Justin Stenger on guitar and cello and the band MOSS. There are free interactive art activities for children and a varied menu of food and drinks.

Admission is free and the event takes place under tents whatever the weather.
