Artist Walter Kitundu unveils new work at Biddeford Pool – MAINE ART SCENE MAGAZINE

(Biddeford Pool, ME) Renowned multidisciplinary artist Walter Kitundu will premiere his latest work, Rekodi Maji, Record the Water, at Biddeford Pool. For this work, which is part research, part sound installation, part performance, Kitundu has equipped his kayak with instruments designed to respond to the state of the winds and waters of Biddeford Pool. The sea plucks strings that vibrate the hull of the boat, which also contains flutes played by the rising and falling waves. The sounds are transmitted to the shore, allowing the audience to experience the work as if they were in the kayak as it navigates the coast.

Rekodi Maji is essentially a tool for examining our relationship with waterways. How have the built environment and changing shorelines shaped the stories that water holds? What can we learn by listening closely to best nurture these relationships in the years to come?
