Armie Hammer sells his truck because he ‘can’t afford the gas’ – NBC10 Philadelphia

Armie Hammer says goodbye to part of his past and welcomes the future.

A year after the “Call Me By Your Name” star settled his divorce from Elizabeth Chambers, he announced that he had traded in his black pickup truck for a more energy (and cost) efficient vehicle.

“I’ve been back in LA for a couple of weeks now,” Hammer said in an August 27 Instagram video, giving insight into his decision to part with the truck. “Since I’ve been back in LA, I’ve put about four or five hundred dollars worth of gas in it. I can’t afford it. I can’t afford the gas anymore.”

The 38-year-old, who shares children Harper (9) and Ford (7) with his ex-wife, bought the black GMC Sierra 1500 Denali pickup truck as a Christmas present in 2017. “I’ve had pickup trucks for a long time,” he recalls. “I loved that truck very much and took it camping and cross-country and on long road trips several times.”

Although it breaks Hammer’s heart to have to sell his beloved car, he also sees something positive in it.

“It’s OK,” he noted. “I have a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid. I’ll probably spend about $10 a month on gas.”

He also admitted that in moments of uncertainty when making a decision, he kept telling himself “that parking will be easier and gas will be cheaper.”

The “Social Network” actor sees it as part of his new chapter, which includes a new apartment and a “new life” in Los Angeles. He added: “Here’s to a fresh start.”

Hammer’s latest update comes a month after he reflected on his three-plus years out of the public eye after he faced numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape. (After a lengthy investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department declined to press charges.)

“It was pretty awesome,” Hammer said of his cancellation on the Club Random with Bill Mahr podcast in July. “It’s incredibly liberating because I spent so much of my life before that worrying about how I was perceived, and now I don’t have to care about that.”

“When everyone just decides they hate you,” he continued, “you think, ‘Oh, well, I don’t need anything from you people anyway. I guess I should just learn to be happy with myself.’ And then you do that and it feels fucking great.”

Allegations made against Hammer in 2021 included having cannibalistic fantasies, forcing his partner into BDSM scenarios, and carving his initials into a woman’s body – all allegations he denied.

Nevertheless, the “Death on the Nile” star believes that all the events in his life were a stroke of luck.

“I’ve experienced ego death, career death, financial death, all those things, right?” he explained. “You have to die. And when you die, you can be reborn.”
