Arizona Wildcats at Utah: Player of the game

The Arizona Wildcats entered Rice-Eccles Stadium during a blackout game and defeated the impressive Utah Utes 23-10.

That is clear Brent Brennan and company did a great job adjusting the team during the bye week, and it showed Saturday night in Salt Lake City.

There were many standout performances, but we’ll take a closer look at a few below in this week’s Player of the Match:

Attack – line of attack

  • Statistics line: 0 sacks, 161 rush yards, 5.4 yards per rush
  • Notes: The most important stat is that the line did not allow Utah’s vaunted defensive line and pass rush to get a sack. That’s impressive. Not to mention, they did a good job opening holes for the running backs most of the night. They did allow six tackles for a loss, but most of those came when Utah started selling out against the run. Just an overall impressive performance from this line.

Defense – Tacario Davis, CB

  • Statistics line: 7 tackles, 5 PBU
  • Notes: As you can see, Bobo Davis had a game. He was an absolute problem for Isaiah Wilson and Dorian Singer. Now Singer had his breakthrough against Davis, but he recovered and made one move after the other. He even had a 2023 shoutout with a near-interception on a deep pass. After a bumpy start to the season, Bobo is back.

Special Teams – Tyler Loop, K

  • Statistics line: 3 against 4, 53 meters long
  • Notes: The sweep against the Utes was automatic. He blasted an impressive 53-yard field goal through the uprights in the third quarter, narrowly missing a 56-yarder who had the distance. Loop will kick off on Sundays.

Honorable Mentions

  • Kedrick Reescano, RB: 7 cars, 73 yards
  • Keyan Burnett, TE: 5 rec, 76 yards, 1 TD
  • Emmanuel Karnley, CB: 4 tackles, 2 PBU
  • Genesis Smith, S: 3 tackles, 1 INT
