Apple iPhone 16 launch: Here is the expected new price of iPhone 15, 14, 13 in India

Apple will unveil its much-awaited iPhone 16 lineup on September 9 during a special event called ‘It’s Glowtime’. The new series will include four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to reports from MacRumors, these devices are expected to hit Apple stores by September 20. Leaked pricing details reveal that the iPhone 16 could start at $799 (approximately Rs 66,300), while the iPhone 16 Plus could cost $899 (approximately Rs 74,600). The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to start at $1,099 (approximately Rs 91,200), and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could start at $1,199 (approximately Rs 99,500).

There have been several offers and discounts on the iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 models recently. The discounts ranged from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 off the regular retail price, making them increasingly popular as consumers try to take advantage of last-minute deals ahead of the iPhone 16 launch.

This raises a question that recurs every year among technology enthusiasts: Should you buy the current iPhone models at a discount or wait for the iPhone 16?

Recently, there have been massive discounts on models like the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone 15. For example, the iPhone 15 was priced at Rs 63,000 on Flipkart, including bank offers, instead of the original price of Rs 79,900. Just last week, it was available for an effective price of Rs 44,600. Last month, the iPhone 14 Plus was available for Rs 54,999 with bank offers. Such attractive offers often make consumers think whether to buy the current discounted models or wait for the new iPhone 16.

Recent price cuts, influenced by a reduction in import duties on components announced in the Union Budget 2024, have led to further price cuts. The duties were reduced from 20 percent to 15 percent, prompting Apple to reduce the prices of several iPhone models by 3-4 percent. For example, the price of the iPhone 13 came down from Rs 59,900 to Rs 57,600, a reduction of Rs 2,300. The price of the iPhone 14 was slightly reduced from Rs 69,900 to Rs 69,600, and the price of the iPhone 14 Plus was reduced by Rs 300 and now costs Rs 79,600 instead of Rs 79,900. The latest iPhone 15 series has also seen a price adjustment. The iPhone 15, which was initially priced at Rs 79,900, is now being offered at Rs 79,600. The iPhone 15 Plus, which was originally priced at Rs 89,900, is now available for Rs 89,600. The iPhone 15 Pro price dropped from Rs 134,900 to Rs 129,800, a saving of Rs 5,100. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has been reduced from Rs 159,900 to Rs 154,000, a total reduction of Rs 5,900. These price cuts do not include additional discounts from bank offers and e-commerce platforms.Read also: iPhone 16 sale date: Here’s when you can buy the latest Apple series phone in India

“As someone who is an early adopter of iPhones and has been using them for nearly 15 years, I would say if you already have the iPhone 15 series, stick with it and only upgrade to the iPhone 16 if you think you see something compelling in the new iPhones that you can’t resist. Otherwise, you will most likely have little reason to upgrade, especially if you are using an iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. They will also have all the Apple Intelligence features and I’m sure you can live without the minor improvements in cameras and design,” commented one expert.

For those using older iPhone models or planning to upgrade to iPhones, it may make sense to buy the current-generation high-end iPhones, especially the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These models are available at significant discounts and represent a robust upgrade over older generations and support the new Apple Intelligence features. “The iPhone 15 Pros are a significant upgrade over the older generation iPhones, but what makes it even more significant is that they will support all Apple Intelligence features. So you can jump on the AI bandwagon with the current-generation iPhone 15 Pros without costing a fortune, which is likely to be the case with the new iPhones,” the expert added.

However, for those who can easily spend over $100,000 on a phone, the iPhone 16 may be worth waiting for because of the upgrades it’s expected to bring. The iPhone 16 lineup is rumored to include the long-awaited Apple Intelligence features, but that may be delayed until October 2024. Additionally, the non-Pro models may feature the Action button that was previously reserved for the higher-end iPhone 15 versions. With iOS 18 introducing a more customizable Control Center and improved lock screen options, the Action button’s utility may diminish somewhat as users have more flexibility in managing device settings and shortcuts through the software.

“Apple is also reportedly adding a dedicated camera control button on the right side of the iPhone 16 Pro models. This new feature mimics the functionality of DSLR cameras and allows users to press lightly to activate autofocus and press harder to take the shot,” the report said.

The iPhone 16 Pro models are also expected to have slightly larger displays, with the standard Pro model growing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the Pro Max from 6.7 inches to nearly 6.9 inches. Under the hood, the iPhone 16 series is likely to be powered by the new A18 chip. All models in the series are expected to have 8GB of RAM to support the new Apple Intelligence Suite, although details on camera and battery improvements remain under wraps. Rumors suggest some improvements in those areas as well.

While specific details on the camera and battery upgrades are not yet available, the iPhone 16 series promises a host of new features and improvements designed to improve the user experience. As the September 9 launch date approaches, consumers are eagerly awaiting more official information on the new lineup.

So the question of whether to buy the currently discounted iPhone models or wait for the iPhone 16 depends on individual needs, the smartphone you currently use, and your purchasing power. While attractive discounts and price cuts make the current models tempting, the upcoming iPhone 16 series may offer significant improvements that could be worth the wait.

Given the significant discounts and deals on current models, as well as the expected features of the iPhone 16 series, consumers have plenty of options to choose from.

Stay tuned for the official launch and detailed announcements about the iPhone 16 series during Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9.
