This weekend the legendary producer Aphex Twin made a surprise debut as a wedding DJ. As expected, he delivered a fast-paced tour of choice club classics including “Cotton Eye Joe,” “Cha Cha Slide,” and “Uptown Funk,” before climaxing with an explosive 10-minute remix of “Mambo No. 5.” His onstage banter was as electrifying as the musical accompaniment: “Marriage is a workshophe joked with a devilish grin, “the man works… and the woman goes shopping!” The crowd went wild when he demanded to know if there were any ladies from Reading in the house.

Whether this marks an exciting new career in the wedding scene, we will have to wait and see: Aphex Twin: The artist – whose real name is Richard D. James – is currently looking forward to the 20th anniversary of his second album, Selected Ambient Works Volume IIwhich is scheduled for re-release in October. Interestingly, earlier this year rumors surfaced online that A24 was working on a biopic about his life, with The poor Actor Willem Dafoe is touted as the lead actor.

The source of this rumor is simply “the internet” (a random Instagram video, to be precise), and the premise doesn’t really make sense considering Dafoe is nearly 20 years older than James.
