Anthony Richardson hits Alec Pierce for a deep ball TD

INDIANAPOLIS – Anthony Richardson is back – and in a big way.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback threw a massive 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce in his first regular season game since returning from a season-ending shoulder injury last season, giving the Colts an early lead over the Houston Texans.

Richardson slipped on his dropback but recovered and found Pierce, who was running against Derek Stingley Jr. and Jimmie Ward in the middle of the field. Pierce outran the two defenders and Richardson’s pass found him easily just before crossing the goal line with 5:12 left in the first quarter.

The pass was thrown 58 air yards, only the fifth passing touchdown with at least 58 air yards since ESPN began counting air yards in 2006, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Richardson only started four games last season before suffering an AC joint sprain.

The Colts lead 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.
