Another school district in Colorado bans the use of cell phones

WOODLAND PARK, Colorado (KKTV) – The Woodland Park School District has announced that cell phones will be banned for students this school year.

In a press release Tuesday, the school district stated that students must put their cell phones in a designated area during class, as determined by their teacher. Cell phones are not allowed during class unless the teacher allows them for special classes or circumstances.

The semester starts on Wednesday.

The Woodland Park School District joined others, including D-11, which recently banned cell phone use.

As part of its ongoing efforts to create an optimal learning environment that promotes academic excellence for every student, the Woodland Park School District (WPSD) is announcing new cell phone restrictions that will prohibit cell phone use in classrooms beginning this school year. This year, students will be required to place their cell phones in a designated area selected by their teacher during class time. Access to cell phones during class is prohibited unless permitted by the teacher for special class periods or circumstances. This initiative is designed to minimize distractions so students can better focus on their studies and actively participate in class activities. “We believe that reducing cell phone use in the classroom will greatly improve the concentration and engagement of our students, leading to greater academic success,” said Superintendent Ken Witt. “Our goal is to create a learning environment where students can focus on learning activities without unnecessary distractions.” Parents and guardians are assured that the school office is available in case of an emergency to help students communicate messages during the school day. This measure ensures that students remain accessible while keeping their educational experience top of mind. These new restrictions are consistent with WPSD’s commitment to providing a quality education and supporting the academic achievement of its students. By creating a distraction-free environment, the district aims to improve the academic achievement of all students.
