Another Colorado Springs school district is enforcing a strict new cell phone ban to improve instruction

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (KKTV) – The days of Woodland Park School District RE-2 students having to sneak glances at cell phones under desks are over for them. Starting this school year, a strict new policy bans cell phone use in classrooms in an effort to eliminate distractions and refocus attention on learning.

“Enough is enough,” “We have seen firsthand how cell phones distract students from learning, and it is time to prioritize education over screen time,” said Ken Witt, superintendent of the Woodland Park School District.

For the first time, the district has implemented a district-wide restriction requiring all students, except those with medical needs, to put away their phones during class. Last year, there was no uniform policy, so teachers had to address the issue individually.

This year, however, students will find special places in classrooms to keep their phones, ensuring the devices are out of reach and out of reach. The policy has already received strong support from the community.

“We have received tremendous feedback on this particular policy, the community is extremely supportive of this policy,” Witt said.

As students adjust to the new rules, the district expects to see a noticeable change in classroom dynamics. Without the distractions of social media and texting, students will be able to better focus on their studies, which Witt and the district say will lead to better outcomes.

“This is an important step toward improving our students’ college experience,” Witt said.
