Anitta channels iconic MTV moments in white dress and silver strappy shoes at the 2024 VMAs

As the MTV Video Music Awards looks back on its 40-year history, Anitta referenced some of the institution’s most exciting red carpet moments. The singer appeared on the event’s black carpet tonight at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, in a white, seemingly bridal-esque dress, complete with veil and a pair of silver strappy sandals.
The stunning outfit was styled by Alejandra LaPilusa in an all-white custom Dolce & Gabbana gown. The dress can be seen as a nod to numerous moments from the VMAs, including a 1984 Madonna performance of “Like A Virgin” where Madonna wore a wedding dress. It can also be seen as a nod to a 2003 performance of the same song where Britney Spears appeared in the all-white veiled look alongside Christina Aguilera in her own wedding dress. Anitta wore the look with a wrist full of diamond bracelets as well as white sheer thigh-high stockings.
Over the stockings, she strapped on a pair of silver strappy sandals. The heels have two straps over the toes and an ankle strap. The ankle strap is attached to a strap that wraps around the back of the foot like a slingback.
The shoe has a high stiletto heel, probably about ten centimeters.
The shoes are by Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian brand is known for its sexy designs. Due to their custom manufacturing, they are often popular with celebrities.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted by Megan Thee Stallion. The ceremony will honor the best music videos, songs and artists of the year. To celebrate the anniversary, this year’s categories include the Most Iconic Performance of the VMAs. The joint performance by Spears, Aguilera and Madonna, which Anitta’s look seems to reference, is nominated for this category. Anitta is nominated in two categories.
