In the latest segment of All The Smoke Fight with Andre Ward and guests Andre Berto and Andre Dirrell, Ward explains why he thinks there are currently two clear candidates for the title of “Face of Boxing” and also talks a bit about their similarities. Check out some of Ward’s excerpts below.

“If I had to say who the face of boxing is right now, I think it’s a two-headed monster,” Ward said. “I think it’s Gervonta Davis – you can’t deny what he’s done, you can’t deny what he’s doing, and you can’t deny the accomplishments – and you can’t deny what Canelo Alvarez has been doing for a very long time.”

“I think one thing they both have in common is that Gervonta had Floyd Mayweather, Mayweather gave Gervonta a cold alley-hoop, Gervonta took the alley-hoop and took it to the next level. If you look at the history of Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez got an incredible alley-hoop from Oscar De La Hoya, the greatest fighter in the game at one point and the greatest Mexican fighter before Canelo came along…

“You have to give credit to both fighters because they took the basket and made something of it. A lot of fighters drop the bag or drop the basket or drop the ball – they didn’t do that.”
