A 44-year-old widow’s alleged attempt to attack her former lover with acid in Nandalur, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday has led to the cancellation of his wedding, police said.
Jaya, 44, a former software engineer with a 22-year-old son, confronted her ex-lover, Sheikh Syed, 32, at his wedding venue in Aravapalli village, Nandalur mandal around 11 am on Sunday. He was preparing to marry another woman without her knowledge.

A police official said the couple had been together for 10 years, but Syed had gone to Kuwait three years ago to work as a driver and after returning to India, he was preparing to marry another woman on Sunday.
“During the argument, Syed declared that he would not stay with Jaya and in a fit of rage, she tried to attack him with acid from a bathroom cleaner but he dodged. The acid fell on Syed’s aunt,” the police official told PTI.

Syed’s aunt did not suffer serious injuries as the substance was acid from bathroom cleaner. The groom, meanwhile, reacted with a ceremonial knife, usually used for wedding decorations, causing minor injuries to Jaya, whose last name is unknown.
The police have filed charges against both parties under the applicable laws and taken them into custody.
