Analysis of Cam Ward’s dominant performance against Florida

quarterback Cam Ward had its reception in Miami moment this weekend in his first career start with the Hurricanes after joining the team from the transfer portal this offseason. He helped Miami to a dominant 41-17 victory over Florida on Saturday in hostile surroundings.

Ward’s sensational performance took the nation by storm and gave Miami fans hope for what could be a breakout season for the team. A performance that Gary Ferman of CaneSport recently On3 round table.

“I mean, wow,” Ferman said. “You take a kid who was a quarterback with a .500 average, State of Washingtonwho obviously had the ability to do what he did on Saturday, and then you put him on a better team with a better plan. And Cam Ward gets everything he wanted from day one by coming to Miami through the transfer portal. He was just unlike anything we’ve ever seen in Miami.”

Miami has a long tradition of strong quarterbacks, but not in recent memory. Many consider that position to be the one that has prevented the Hurricanes from returning to national success. But after Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns in impressive fashion against Florida, some believe he could be one that could lead Miami to new heights in this era.

“We had great quarterbacks in this program, Bernie Kosar, Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde, Gino Torretta , Steve Walsh“You could go on forever with the story of Miami’s greatness in college football, and the level of quarterback play that the Hurricanes have benefited from,” Ferman said. “But we’ve never seen anything like what we saw on Saturday.”

Ward’s stats alone don’t do his performance Saturday justice. He showed supreme composure on the road as he directed Florida’s defense. He made passes to 10 different receivers and did so on a variety of different throws. He used different arm angles and showed impressive control of Miami’s offense.

“Just the way he did it, the confidence, the poise, the variety of ways he throws the ball to his receivers. The way he just stands there and is so calm, composed and composed,” Ferman said. “I mean, there were times when I didn’t have a stopwatch on, sometimes he had to time 10-15 seconds when he just stood there and looked around, saw what everyone was doing, took it all in and then grabbed the ball and executed the play perfectly.”

If Saturday was just the beginning of what Ward will do this season, there is no doubt that it could be a historic year for the Hurricanes with the transfer QB coming to New York in December.

“His mental game has been phenomenal, his physical game has been phenomenal, and we see what Cam Ward can do with a better lineup. And if Miami can maintain that level of play and hopefully even improve it, because I think they need to improve it, Cam Ward will be a Heisman Trophy candidate,” Ferman concluded.
