Amazon manager: Three-crore salary for minimal work triggers debate

A recent post on Blind, the app for anonymous workplace conversations, has brought to light shocking news about an Amazon employee. The post revealed that a senior employee at Amazon has been drawing a sizable salary for over a year without doing any meaningful work.

The employee, who had previously been fired from Google, admitted to having deliberately put in minimal effort since joining Amazon a year and a half ago.

According to the post, the employee only works around eight hours a week, mostly attending meetings. During this time, he claims to have completed only a handful of tasks, including resolving seven support tickets and creating an automated dashboard. Using ChatGPT, he admitted that the entire work took just three days, but was reported as a three-month project. Despite this minimal output, the employee continues to receive a hefty total compensation package of around $370,000 (roughly Rs. 3.1 million).

The employee, who holds the title of Senior Technical Programme Manager (TPM), also described his current role as one of turning down other teams that try to integrate into his team and ensuring that others do most of the work. Surprisingly, he has received no warnings or performance improvement plans (PIPs) from his superiors, making him unsure how much longer he can maintain this situation.

The post quickly gained popularity on Blind, garnering over 30,000 views and numerous other users commenting on it. Many expressed envy or amusement at the situation. Some jokingly referred to the author’s role as a “dream job,” while others humorously suggested he was well on his way to a leadership position.

This revelation has sparked discussions about the challenges of accountability in large organizations. It also shows that employees can exploit the system, particularly in high-paying positions where control may be limited.
