Almost 500 new trees will be planted in South Moravia this year – Brno Daily

Six projects from the South Moravian region have successfully applied for a grant for the maintenance and preservation of tree rows provided by the KB Pension Company. In total, almost 500 new trees will be planted in the region as part of these projects. In cooperation with the Partnership Foundation, KB Pensions provides funds for tree planting every year as part of the Sázíme Budoucnost (“We Plant for the Future”) grant program. This year the grant amounts to almost 1.7 million CZK.

KB Pensions became involved in Sázíme Budoucnost three years ago, says board member Jana Petrovská. During these three years, KB Pensions and the KB Foundation donated more than 5 million crowns to restore the Czech landscape by planting trees and shrubs.

As part of the programme, 1,748 trees and shrubs have been planted in rural areas over the past two years. This year, another 828 trees and shrubs are planned, 483 of which will be in the South Moravian region.

“We are aware that landscape care deserves the same attention as reducing the carbon footprint or recycling waste,” Petrovská added. “In addition, we support the local communities who subsequently take care of the trees. We ourselves also participate in the planting.”

The Sázíme Budoucnost funding programme focuses on increasing the resilience of the landscape through tree planting and landscaping projects that improve water retention and prevent soil erosion. Another aim is to support local residents in their efforts to take care of their immediate surroundings and the environment in general. These projects also include semi-natural modifications of small watercourses, wells and springs near tree lines, as well as elements that make visiting these areas more pleasant, such as benches and information boards.

Grants of up to CZK 250,000 are available to associations, institutes, non-profit organizations, ecclesiastical legal entities, funding organizations, homeowners’ associations, cooperatives, foundations and endowment funds, schools, municipalities and municipal associations.
