BELMONT, NY – At its May meeting, the Allegany County Democratic Committee (ACDC) learned from Alfred member Walter Mason that the four volunteer fire departments in Allegany County District IV (Alfred, Almond, Andover and Alfred Station) were raising money to replace a truck.

The county owns and maintains a cascade system air cart used to fill and refill SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) air cylinders. Local volunteer firefighters carry these as needed to fight indoor and outdoor fires, search buildings for occupants, and protect themselves from smoke and carcinogen inhalation.

Mr. Mason, an employee of the A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder Company, explained that this truck needed to be replaced and that District IV had organized a raffle to raise money for that purpose, with the goal being $10,000.

In addition to ACDC members purchasing many raffle tickets on their own, the committee held a small fundraiser and was able to donate an additional $385.00 to the cause.

At his 7 August^th At the District IV meeting in Andover, Bryan Dodge, former Alfred Station Fire Chief and District IV Coordinator, accepted the donation from ACDC Vice Chairman Mark Holt of Andover. Mr. Dodge noted, “The donation is greatly appreciated and will help fund repairs and future replacement of the aircraft.” If you would like to donate, please contact any of the four fire departments in District IV (Alfred, Almond, Andover and Alfred Station).
