Alien movies in the correct order – the complete Alien timeline

Alien: Romulus is here to bring the Xenomorph back to the big screen, and it might make you want to watch the series again.

But in what order do you watch the seven Foreigner Films that have been released so far? (Yes, we are ignoring the two Alien vs Predator Movies.)

You can go with the simple release order strategy or, if you want to be more thorough, watch the films in chronological order.

We are here to help you make the final Foreigner Timeline, including the possibility to Foreigner Films in order of release, in chronological order and with a detailed timeline of exactly when the events took place.

Alien films in release order

The easiest way to repeat the Foreigner Series should be watched in the order in which they were originally released.

If you want to go through both Alien vs Predator Films, they were made in 2004 and 2007 in the gap between Alien: Rebirth And Prometheus.

We do not recommend this, nor are they necessary for your understanding, so we have omitted them from the following publication order.

Here is the Foreigner Films in order of release:

Foreigner (1979)
Aliens (1986)
Aliens 3 (1992)
Alien: Rebirth (1997)
Prometheus (2012)
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien: Romulus (2024)

Alien movies in chronological order: Where does Alien: Romulus take place?

Unlike other long-running series, Foreigner Movies can be watched relatively easily in chronological order if you so wish.

Alien: Romulus never mind Halloween and forget all the other movies, so there are no concerns about branching timelines. It is set in 2142, 20 years after Foreigner and 37 years before the events of Aliens.

As with the release order, we have the Alien vs Predator Movies from this chronological order. However, if you really want to watch them as part of your rewatch, they take place before the events of all the other movies, aside from the opening of Prometheus.

Here is the Foreigner Films in chronological order:

• Prometheus
• Alien: Covenant
• Alien
• Alien: Romulus
• Aliens
• Aliens 3
• Alien: Rebirth

Alien Timeline

If you really want a detailed breakdown of all the important events in the Foreigner Movies to date, we are here to help with the final Foreigner Timeline.

(We focused on the films and did not include the works of the wider canon because that would take up the entire year.)

4 billion – 2 million BC – An alien race later called “The Engineers” visits Earth and leaves one of their own behind. His body disintegrates after drinking black slime and his DNA leaks into the water and recombines to create life.

35,000 BC – Evidence from the engineers in Scotland.

3590 BC – Sumerian evidence of engineers visiting Earth.

2470 BC – Egyptian evidence of engineers visiting Earth.

1540 BC – Babylonian evidence of engineers visiting Earth.

8th century BC – The Prometheus myth (about a Titan who brought man to life from clay and stole the secret of fire from the gods) first appears in Greek mythology.

620 BC – Mayan evidence of engineers visiting Earth.

1st century AD – The Engineers prepare a “death ship” filled with jars of black goo to send to Earth to destroy their wayward children, humanity. (The decapitated Engineer found by the Prometheus crew on LV-223 was carbon dated to be approximately 2,000 years old.)

1990 – Peter Weyland, the man who will found Weyland Corp., is born.

2004 – Aliens and Predators do things. Together. If you’ve seen this AvP movies, then you know it’s best if we move on.

2012 – Peter Weyland founds Weyland Corp, the company behind so many doomed space missions.

Around 2030 – Weyland creates David, an android.

2080s – Dr. Elizabeth Shaw and Dr. Charlie Holloway discover evidence of “star maps” from the Babylonian, Sumerian, Mayan, Egyptian and Mesopotamian periods.

2089 – Shaw discovers another star map or “invitation” in a cave on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

2091 – The USCSS Prometheus, a space exploration vessel built by the Weyland Corp., leaves Earth on its journey to LV-223.

2092 – Ellen Ripley is born on Earth. (On January 7th, to be precise.)

2093 – All but two members of the Prometheus crew are killed after an encounter on LV-223 with an alien species and a reanimated Engineer. The ship is destroyed, and Dr. Shaw and a badly damaged David abandon ship on an Engineer ship to find the Engineer homeworld.

2094 – Shaw is probably rebuilding David, and according to David’s statement in Alien: Covenant, He and Shaw reach “Paradise”, a planet where millions of engineers live. He uses the poisonous black goo from their ship to destroy the entire population.

2104 – Covenant, a colonization ship with thousands of humans and embryos on board, makes a detour to an unnamed planet (Paradise) on the way to Origae-6. There the crew discovers David and a new species, the Neomorph.

After the invasion of the planet, during which most of the crew is killed, it turns out that David has biologically created the aliens we know. He brings their embryos on board along with the human embryos. The ship continues its journey to Origae-6.

2120 – The spaceship Nostromo leaves Earth.

2122 – After receiving a signal, Nostromo lands on the planetoid LV-426. After being infected by an alien, First Officer Kane dies when an alien pierces his chest. It kills the crew one by one, leaving Ripley and Jones, the ship’s cat, alive.

2142 – A group of young colonists, including Rain and her synthetic “brother” Andy from Jackson’s Star mining colony, break into the Weyland-Yutani Renaissance Station and discover that experiments are being conducted on the original Xenomorph. Chaos and death ensue, and a human-alien hybrid is born, with Rain and Andy as the only survivors.

2179 – After being in stasis for 57 years, Ripley is rescued but returns to LV-426 after losing contact with the new human colony there, Hadley’s Hope.

When they arrive with a military squad, they find the only human survivor, Newt, more facehuggers, a swarm of aliens, and a pretty badass queen. Ripley escapes with Newt, Corporal Hicks, and the android Bishop and returns to Earth on the Sulaco.

However, there must be at least two facehuggers on board, and while they sleep, one impregnates Ripley with a queen. Somehow a fire breaks out and the humans’ escape pod is ejected, landing near a penal colony on Fiorina 161. Only Ripley and another facehugger survive. Ripley kills the resulting alien and then commits suicide by jumping into a furnace.

2379 – The United Systems Military clones Ripley (and her bio-passenger) using medical samples rescued from Fiorina 161. They surgically remove the alien queen to breed the species, some of which escape aboard the Auriga., kill many.

Auriga crashes into the Earth’s atmosphere and explodes. Meanwhile, the Ripley clone escapes with the android Call on board the Betty.
