Donald Trump has dismissed Taylor Swift’s endorsement of his election opponent, but his campaign team still seems to be hoping to use her image as an endorsement. On Thursday, his campaign team announced new Trump shirts that are blatant copies of Swift’s “Eras” tour poster.

The T-shirts, which sell for $36, feature a picture of Trump in the foreground and various photos of him on a grid in the background. The design is a knockoff of the poster from Swift’s billion-dollar tour, which is also sold on T-shirts and various other items. Trump’s campaign advertised the product on X, calling it a “Trump-era shirt.”

It is unclear what legal action, if any, Swift might take against Trump, who is already facing numerous requests from musicians and their estates to stop using their music at his campaign events. Swift is known to be very cautious about her public image, and her press agent is known to be very protective of her. Swift has not yet commented publicly on the campaign’s advertising.

But the pettiness of this approach suggests the former president may be more upset about Swift’s support of Kamala Harris than he has let on. Last week, Trump suggested to Fox News that Swift’s endorsement would hurt her success “in the marketplace” and said he was not a fan of it.

“To be honest, I actually like Mrs. Mahomes a lot better,” Trump said, referring to Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a friend of Swift’s who has publicly expressed her support for Trump. “She’s a huge Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan.”

But Trump has made great efforts Using Swift’s popularity to his advantage. In August, he posted several AI-generated images of the pop star and her fans, known as “Swifties,” supporting him on Truth Social. Swift said in her support of Harris that she was motivated in part because of these fake images, writing, “It made me realize that as a voter, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election.”

Swift has spoken out against Trump a few times over the years. Earlier this year, however, Trump said he didn’t think Swift would support President Joe Biden in 2024 because Trump signed bipartisan copyright reform legislation in 2018, saying she “wouldn’t be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.” (This despite Swift having already endorsed Biden in 2020.)

Trump also expressed disbelief that “a country star can be successful if she’s liberal” (Swift started out in country music but has since moved significantly in a pop direction) and asked if “she’s liberal or is that just an act?”
