After record summer in Central California, three-digit numbers return

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — On Tuesday, triple-digit heat again prevailed throughout Central California.

“It’s frustrating because you expect cooler weather and then it gets hotter again,”

Fresno resident Alyssa Reeves reacts to the rollercoaster temperatures here in the Central Valley.

“I was upset because I took out my sweaters last week because it was cooler, and now it’s getting hotter again and I have to put them away,”

According to ABC News, this summer was the hottest on record in dozens of cities across the United States.

According to Action News AM Live meteorologist Christine Gregory, Fresno is among the cities breaking heat records this year, with more than 50 days of triple-digit temperatures.

“We had a record-breaking July. It was the hottest July on record. I think that suggests it was a very hot summer and we are now seeing the summer weather making itself felt in the first week of fall,” Gregory said.

Gregory says you shouldn’t put away your summer clothes just yet, especially if you expect to be outside a lot.

Crews at the Fresno Fairgrounds have been busy setting up for the Big Fresno Fair, which opens October 2nd.

The trade fair organizers are preparing for hot weather in the first week of the fair.

“When it’s this warm outside, safety is our number one concern at the Big Fresno Fair. We have paramedics on site who don’t get called out often, but are there just in case,” said Taylor Collins, program coordinator.

Collins says that despite the forecast for warm weather, she is optimistic that people will be able to enjoy the fair.

“When you walk into one of our buildings and look at our fantastic exhibits, you learn about the rich agricultural history. It’s a great experience,” Collins said.

She adds that even in air-conditioned buildings, people can find plenty of shaded areas with opportunities to rest.

Collins says if you decide to come to the Big Fresno Fair, you can also bring a sealed water bottle for extra hydration.
